Letter of Intent, written, directed and designed by John Jesurun
Staged in an intimate apartment setting. Jesurun’s cast navigates the clandestine personas of four operatives working from the confines of an anonymous West Village maisonette. They negotiate a verbal and perceptual minefield of enciphered meanings and interpretations that leave them implicated in the dismantling of their own actuality.
“Jesurun’s writing is full of nooks and crannies: words spill out, double over themselves, and find the logic in their illogic.” -Billy McEntee, Brooklyn Rail, April 2025 (full review)
John Jesurun’s verbal images pile on each other, cancel each other, are gorgeously evocative, terrifyingly direct, disgustingly familiar, apocalyptic. In his language all is possible (yes, you CAN say that.) As in Whitewater, language makes itself come true. For me John is a great poet among modern playwrights. But, acting-wise, the language is never milked (anyway there isn’t time). It abhors assumption, it has the best insults ever. - Fiona Templeton, January 2009
John Jesurun is a media artist, writer and director based in New York. His presentations integrate elements of language, architectural space and media. His exploded narratives cover a wide range of themes and explore the relation of form to content. They challenge the experience of verbal, visual and intangible perceptions. His work is distinguished by his integrated creation of the text, direction, set and media design.
